Antique Pharos, one of the oldest towns on the Croatian coast of the Adriatic was founded on the locality of the present day Stari Grad by Greek colonists from the island of Pharos in 385 BC. Until recently the heart of Stari Grad was Sridnja kola (i.e. Middle street), the main street of the old town core, which is well known for its archaeological sites, especially for the remains of Roman mosaics.
On the corner of Vagonj Street and Sridnja kola stands a house whose foundations comprise Greek pavement (4 ct. BC) and Roman mosaic (2/3 ct. AD). Presumably, this spot used to be locality of a Roman public building or a villa urbana of a distinguished citizen.
On those historical foundations today lies Moria Gallery, named after an antique Greek sort of olive - the holy tree whose branch was carried by vagrants in search for safe haven. In Moria Gallery their modern followers will find peace, inspiration and artistic haven.
